THE SPIRIT OF WARRIOR AND THE SPIRIT OF HUCKSTER

Every culture or epoch as well as every particular philosophical way or public opinion in one or another form reflects the struggle between two principles - idealistic and materialistic. In general the first reflection represents a warrior's psychological type, such people also find themselves in philosophy, journeys, asceticism, etc.; the second type is a haggler, who would gladly become an official, a manager or will join some other way to build his own hedonistic world.

Why exactly a warrior? Because in his image you can see death and clear understanding of its constant presence. A haggler always try to forget about death - about eternal. He always try to surrounds himself with shiny toys, which are unlikely to have value in terms of eternity. Their shine blurs thoughts about the possibility of death. He dress himself in bright and glamorous stuff to remind himself once again that death is too far; at the same time, a warrior wears black or grey, which is another reminder of death.

We often criticize a modern cult of consumerism. Of course, a warrior is also consumes in greater or lesser extent, but it's different. It is appropriate here to recall the French philosopher Baudrillard, who criticized a worldview, according to which acts of consumption are considered as achievement. That's like a difference between a man, who drinks coffe at morning and a Starbucks fan. A haggler's problem not in the desire to buy everything, but in the desire to sell everything for it.

Unfortunately, even in senior posts in the army we can meet mostly hucksters, because a corrupt officer, who shares his "additional incomes" with senior officers looks more perspective in their eyes than a combat hero.

But we will win, because only spirit gives life!
