INSTITUTE OF SOCIETY RIGHTS PROTECTION REPORT ON THE 'KYIV PRIDE 17'

Action against propaganda of homosexuality began on Independence Square on June 17 at 17.00. Representatives of Christian and patriotic organizations, the ATO veterans, volunteers, chaplains and human rights activists came to the meeting. A joint decision was made on arranging of a peaceful blockade at the planned route of the KyivPride. For this, the activists had decided to stay in Shevchenko's park all the previous night, since the police began to mount iron fences in the city center in advance.

Police's blockposts in the center of Kyiv not only made an obstacle of free movement of the ordinary residents' trasport, but also created obstacles for the running of ambulances. At around 4 am, the activists witnessed the police prohibited ambulance cars who was rushing to a call with blue lighthouse enabled, to move through the central street, obliging them to ride to the detour.

In the morning, first clashes broke out between law enforcers and the defenders of family values in the Shevchenko Park. The activists had repulsed the first waves of assault. Meanwhile, new and new indifferent citizens were joining the action. After a while, the protesters formed a living chain through Volodymyrskaya Street. People came with the Bibles, the national flags and posters with quotes from the Sacred Scripture. The organizers of the Kyiv Pride were forced to change the route a few minutes before the start. Members of the action in defense of traditional family values had repeatedly emphasized that their goal is is not an aggressive attack on the 'Kyiv Pride,' but to block the 'parade' movement through blocking the street.

Immediately before the start ща the march of the LGBT community and other society destructive forces, the pro-traditional family action members had been surrounded by several lines of an armed police cordon. Horsemen of the horse police repeatedly beat people with batons. No one was let out of the environment for about two hours, even women. As a result, the participants of the campaign tried to express their indignation to law enforcement officers, but the police responded using tear gas and launched an attack on people.

Several activists, including women, were injured due to police attacks. Posters with quotations from the Bible were damaged. Several representatives of the so-called "March of Equality" were watching by policemen illegal actions.

This year the 'Kyiv Pride' was held under the slogans "Ukraine - for All", which causes some dissonance, because in several meters from the procession take place a direct discriminatory aggression against Christians. It is noteworthy that the ambassadors of European countries, who took part in the gay parade among the painted transvestites, had complitelly ignored the facts of a violation of the law against Christians. It seems, that under their slogan "Ukraine for all" they had implied Ukraine for everyone except Ukrainians and Christians.
